Doctors told a young mother that her unborn child's life was Not Worth Saving. With the determination that mother found through faith, Matthew thrived, and he did live. He spoke without talking; he loved, laughed, and made friends-all without ever saying a single word. Matthew was a light and a joy to those who encountered him. In Not Worth Saving, Ann Joyner shares the story of her son Matthew's twenty-one miraculous and grace-filled years-and, unwittingly, reveals so much more about the number of lives and hearts Matthew changed, simply by being alive.

Doctors told a young mother that her unborn child’s life was Not Worth Saving. With the determination that mother found through faith, Matthew thrived, and he did live. He spoke without talking; he loved, laughed, and made friends—all without ever saying a single word. Matthew was a light and a joy to those who encountered him. In Not Worth Saving, Ann Joyner shares the story of her son Matthew’s twenty-one miraculous and grace-filled years—and, unwittingly, reveals so much more about the number of lives and hearts Matthew changed, simply by being alive.

Matthew is featured in the bottom right side of the Resurrection Stained Glass Window in the sanctuary at the Leawood Location. Matthew Joyner is the only Resurrection member depicted in the window. Though he never spoke a word due to a chromosomal condition, Matthew’s life was a catalyst for the development of Matthew’s Ministry. Matthew’s Ministry is an outreach and support ministry for persons of all ages with special needs and their families. Our blood drive also started because of Matthew’s life. Matthew has passed away and is pictured doing something he was not able to do in his 21 years on Earth: reading a book to a local girl from one of our partner schools in Kansas City.

About the Author

Ann Joyner has proved with a two-year secretarial degree that a passionate, determined, and stubborn mother who asks for God's help needn't have an MA, PhD, or MD to turn a life "not worth saving" into one that touches and saves thousands of others. Speaking around the country, Ann has filled audiences with hope, replacing their darkness with light. She passionately shares her belief that every life has unlimited value and potential.

Explore the Resurrection Window in depth with this 500 piece jigsaw puzzle.

The Resurrection Window is the focal point of the sanctuary of The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection. The window tells overarching biblical story from Genesis 1 to Revelation 22. Created as a triptych focused on three gardens - the Garden of Eden, the Garden of Redemption, and the Garden of Paradise Restored, the window was designed and created by Judson Studios of Los Angeles, California. Tim Carey is the lead artist, with world-renowned glass artist Narcissus Quagliata consulting and providing artistic expertise on the project.

The finished puzzle measures 34 inches wide by 12 inches tall.  The included insert describes the themes of the window and identifies each of the characters in the window who were chosen because of their lasting influence on the Christian faith or the pursuit of social justice, and how the character’s story reveals a key characteristic of the heart of God.

For more than 2.000 years, the interaction of light and color in stained glass has told sacred stories and created a sense of reverence, wonder and awe for worshippers. This is the story of one such interaction, but this one is of profound size—The Resurrection Window, a magnificent work of art that combines techniques from the seventh century with the technology of the twenty-first century.

This book details the journey of this two year-long effort. Using vivid narrative and hundreds of detailed, richly colored images, The Resurrection Window: Vision, Creation, Mission follows the making of the 100-foot-wide stained glass masterpiece . . . from concept to its installation as the focal point of the sanctuary of The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection.

From the sanctuary’s soaring roofline, to the generous use of native limestone and natural wood, to the symbolism of the building’s striking exterior, the book explores how every element in the innovative design provides a most-appropriate setting for the breathtaking window.

We invite you to enter this story. Meet the collaborative visionaries, learn of the design process, see the development of innovative glass techniques, and discover how an interplay of story, color, and light can transport you into the presence of God.
